Modigliani’s ‘Raymond’ : A Portrait of Genius and Fate

PARIS | 24 OCTOBER 2025

In 1915, as war raged across Europe, Amedeo Modigliani painted Raymond — a rare portrait of the young Raymond Radiguet, created in the vibrant heart of Montparnasse, where Modigliani mingled with Picasso, poets, and painters shaping modern art.

Unlike the elongated, sensuous figures that made him famous, here Modigliani experiments with Cubist influences — geometric planes, bold lines, and a quiet intensity that capture both a friend and a fleeting moment in history.

It’s more than a portrait — it’s a glimpse into Modigliani’s circle, into Paris in transformation, but also into his and Radiguet’s artistic life.

This unique painting is one of the highlights of the Modernités sale the 24 October 2025 in Paris, presented by CELINE.
