the black silk ground embroidered with gilt-metal threads with a central roundel featuring Muhammad in thuluth, encircled by a calligraphic band on green silk, radiating rays, and red roundels in each corner bearing the names of the four Caliphs, mounted on a stretcher

Within the roundel: muhammad rasul allah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God bless him and grant him salvation'


In the band: Qur'an, surah al-fath (XLVIII), part of verse 29, followed by the phrase that it is in the hand of Sultan Mahmud II (r.1808-39)


In the four roundels: Abu bakr al-siddiq radi allah 'anhu/ 'umar al-faruq radi allah 'anhu / 'uthman radi allah 'anhu / 'ali radi allah 'anhu, 'Abu Bakr the righteous, May God be satisfied with him. 'Umar, the one who distinguishes truth from falsehood, May God be satisfied with him. 'Uthman, May God be satisfied with him. 'Ali, May God be satisfied with him'
